Jodie, any woman's best chance for a Valentine's day proposal is to wait till NEXT year, which is a leap year.

This is when the female of the species is "allowed" to take the initiative - and it only happens every four years. Hand deliver the object of your desire a romantic card with your proposal written inside. Dress up in a sexy outfit, and whisk your beloved off to dinner. Do not seek permission or accept excuses - act like a man! I would draw the line at getting down on one knee and proposing, verbally, in a crowded restaurant. Could be humiliating, for everyone concerned, not least yourself, should you be rejected (this is the biggest single fear men have).

Take this advice from a woman who did it on February 29, 1984. I got a cautious "Definite maybe" but nailed it down to an "I do" in March 1985.

Don't hold your breath for a proposal of marriage this year, but if you are disappointed, plan ahead for 2008!

I know that I'm getting proposed to sometime this year. But I hope it's not on Valentine's day. That's so cliche. Actually, I know it won't happen on the 14th. My boyfriend likes to be original.

If there is any one contemplating giving me a Valentine's Day proposal, then please don't bother, as I will only have to decline, but thank you anyway. !! xx
