I don't. There are 52+ million orphans out there that need love and a caring home.

Life is also full of joy, happiness, excitement, and love. And even if there is no guarantee, there is still the possibility that we might achieve these things, and that alone is worth a life entering this world.
I still agree with you in a way though. We are overpopulating the planet, and I do wonder sometimes why we would bring another life into it when we can adopt, and make someone else's life better.

first of all for most women it's a biological desire/need to have children. Ovulation and hormone production drive this. As far as men go, it ranges from wanting a son to carry on the family name to the mentality that that fathering a son is expected or is the manly thing to do.
There are no guarantees in life and that especially goes for your children to have a better life than you did or your parents. There is pain, sorrow and struggles, but there is also love, a sense of accomplishment and the feeling of family.

What justifies you dictating that another human should not be born? They may have a really bad life like you describe- or they could have a really great life and be the next Jonas Salk or someone like that. I believe the world is a balance- for every good there is a bad. Its a crapshoot. But having kids enhances your own life, and gives them a chance to make their own futures.

If you are follow monotheistic religion, you are supposed to believe that God created this world, "and it was good." There is an eternal hope which is captured in the figure of the God head.
So, procreation is one of the best and most important expressions of that hope. It's a defiant hope in the future and in the inherent goodness and potential of man.
I like that phrase from Obama "the audacity of hope." That's what it is. In the face of so much suffering, one makes a leap of faith that progress is possible.
And, we have made some progress. It can seem painfully slow at times, but I'd rather be living now than 1,000 years ago.

there is no justification-this coming from someone who has a child. The act of having a child is selfish for all those reasons you mentioned. it's pretty much ensuring that your bloodline doesn't become extinct. i think it's ironic that it in itself is a selfish thing, but when the child is actually born (if you are a good parent) you have to learn to be everything but selfish. and it truly is the greatest experience to watch your child grow up and be able to learn and suceed. again-something wanted by every parent. but yes, for those reasons alone, i've decided not to have any more kids.

Procreation is necessary for the continuance of the species!? Childbearing and child rearing re the most unselfish and loving acts that any human being can be involved in. Having children for any other reasons than for the love and sharing it involves you in are fruitless. (no pun intended)

Hopefully the next phase in the evolution of the human race is just around the next corner. And if not just because i want some of that warm fuzzy glow that comes from having children + my child could solve all the planets problems, its a gamble.

first of all you are depressed, seek help. second: without hope we might as well all just lay down and wait to die. raising our children the right way is the hope for our world. there is never a guarantee for happiness or anything else. but to live to the best of your ability and to pass your knowledge and love on to your children defines us.
i hope you'll learn to find happiness and your way in this life. start with yourself, don't go around and criticize other people. see what you have to change in yourself to find peace, trust me it's the only way to live.
