Am breast feeding my baby. she was doing ok for the first two months. Used to be on each breast for 10 minutes. And was feeding her once in 3 hours.
Now from the starting of her third month, her appetite has come down. She is being on only one breast at a time and that too for just 5 minutes! When I tried pumping out to check using a manual pump, it hardly came to 1 ounce. When I checked with her pediatrician, he asked few questions and said she is normal because she is active, has gained weight and not fuzzy. But am WORRIED. Pls. advice.

My baby did the same thing. Their growth slows down at about three months, and sometimes I guess their appetite does, too. I wouldn't rely too much on how much you are able to pump. Babies are much more skilled at sucking than pumps. As long as the baby continues to grow, I wouldn't worry. She's just not a big eater. Good luck!

It's good that you're paying such close attention to your baby's feeding habits. It is also good that you are using a pump to keep your milk production up while she is less hungry right now. Most likely, her appetite will improve soon. You may have eaten something that didn't agree with her digestion. If you are worried about her; keep notes on how long and how often she is eating so that if you need to take her back to the doctor, he or she will know exactly how much your baby has been eating. Keep doing what you're already doing, and see what she does for the next day or two. If things don't improve, call her doctor, and talk to a lactation consultant.

Firstly pumping has absolutely nothing to do with how much your baby is getting. Pumping is a skill.

She may just be more efficient at suckling now, she may be done with growth spurts for a wee bit. As long as she is making enough wet diapers SHE IS FINE.

It is common to be concerned about low supply but it really only happens to about 1% of women unless they are using scheduled feeds or have had breast surgery, or are on certain medications.

ok by 3 months the kid is good at breast feeding...

Listen when she is eating you should hear really good swallows... and if you pop out I bet it sprays...

I would be that in that 5 minutes she is basicaly empyting your breast...

also... at least for my wife... when she pumped with a manual pump she wouldn't get a good let down reflex... it wasn't until we got the electric pump that she could pump and get it to go...

really listen for the swallowing...

also pay attention... what goes in must come out... as long as she is still peeing and pooping all is well...

I would get another opinion, my little one was 2 1/2 months and she wasn't getting enough with 7oz of formula and put her on rice cereal. I think as they grow, they need more, 3 months isn't that active. But if she isn't losing weight then there may not be concern, but definitly check into it, seems like shes not getting enough.

She will eat when she'd hungry. She hsould be ready to start on some ceral/fruit at 4 months. I wouldn't worry about it too much if she's gaining weight.

This is very normal, please don't worry so much. Breastmilk is full of nutrition, and babies will only eat as much as they need. Congratulations on breastfeeding!
