I've been all over Canada and not one store has bullet proof glass between the clerk and the costumer but when I go to the states I see it in almost every store (not all but most)

My canadian friends pointed that out about the hotel they stayed at when they came down, they'd never seen such a thing. What can I say, it's violent down here as I'm sure you know.

It's for the protection of the clerks that work there. There is more excessive violence in America than in Canada - not really sure why, as we all have the same basic access to information and technology, but America is a violent country.

Best advice: Stay in school so you won't end up working behind the bullet proof glass!

Okay, I've seen it twice now that the plastic glass has either something to do with 'minorities' or African Americans. As I recall, when I see mug shots on TV of people robbing gas stations or local
7-11s, it isn't just pictures of African Americans or even other minorities that are flashed across the tv screen. Just sum it all down to violence and stop trying to blame it on African Americans. It's just like when several years ago there was a shootout at Case Western Reserve University here in Cleveland and someone actually died from being shot by the shooter. Everyone was so quick to point a finger to a black man being the perpetrator just because the shooter was dark-skinned. He was Indian, which wasn't released until several days after the fact. There were no apologies of course. I'm tired of all African Americans being slandered in front of the entire world and there not being any way to counter the effect because that is all the world happens to see (whatever the media chooses to show).

And I have an even better reason why there is bullet proof glass in these stores. It may just be for the simple fact that they are seen as easier targets (proven by statistics in places that crime occurs frequently), than somewhere like for example a bank, to be robbed by theives.
When it comes to Canada vs U.S. in crime, I can't compare. I remember doing research on the crime statistics. And there was a tv program on Canada and crime and in one of the neighborhoods everyone left their doors unlocked at night, even when they were asleep. That's something you'll never see here in the U.S., unless you're out in some well isolated area. It is different, as I'm sure the poverty levels are different in comparison as is the desparation of individuals who can't afford anything, even after working four jobs at a time - and I know lots of people who have to do this just to make ends meet.

I won't mention the particular race but most of the guys of that race have a particular taste to rob gas stations and convenience stores. it's a big problem here in the states that is why the owners do what they do to make the clerks feel safe.

just ask jerome who is in prison. he knows!

maximum vest are being replaced with Kevlar or different ceramics regulation enforcement and our troops will inform you that a steel vest is risky without Kevlar decrease than it. steel can block grenades yet they do no longer block bullets or armor piercing rounds. steel plate will reason the bullet to ricochet and it could kill you. the right thank you to equip a vest is ceramic on the exterior Kevlar decrease than that then deramex then the steel and a layer of the precise fabric decrease than that steel should not be on precise.

hmm they are everywhere not just "bad" neighborhoods and it is because there are lots of crazy folks walking around of ALL colors... I remember a few years back a woman worker got kidnapped at one of these places and it was in a so called good neighborhood, too bad she has not been heard from since... you better believe that the place now has that barrier up.

protection for the clerk since many clerks are not allowed by either company policy or State law to carry any weapons to defend themselves.

Not everywhere, just in minority communities. I've never seen this glass in good neighborhoods, maybe because we don't shoot store clerks.
