1. A multidisciplinary team typically consists of everyone involved in assessment and treatment planning for the student in question, as well as the parent(s).
2. The school psychologist, the child's teacher, any special services providers (speech pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, etc.), and the school nurse.
3. Each member of the team evaluates the child and makes recommendations to the team about diagnoses and appropriate therapies.
4. During the IEP (individual education plan) meeting, goals and methods are discussed and agreed upon by all parties involved (this is the parents' input is expected).
5. Multidiscipliary teams exist to make sure no gaps exist in your child's treatment. It is always better to have all the professionals involved with your child's education to understand and reinforce each other's goals.
