First Congrats on the baby!! Second, I'm 25 weeks pregnant and I also suffer from severe migraines. My wonderful in-laws paid for me to go to acupuncture and that helped for a little while. However I started getting them again and can not afford the acupuncture so I called my OB and he prescribed Vicodin for me. I still haven't taken one though because they make me horribly sick when I'm not pregnant so I don't want to deal with it pregnant. But anyways I strongly suggest you call your OB and they'll tell you what to do. But you should look for some alternatives. Part of being a mom or becoming a mom is looking out for whats best for the baby. Your baby will most likely not through withdrawls.

Riddle me this: Would you give a 3 month-old baby a 1/2 a vicodin? Your baby is even younger and *still developing.*
Let's not even begin with the withdrawals that you're concerned about, and let's start with what it could be doing to developing organs, systems (like the nervous system), and processes. Stop taking everything except what is prescribed to you and your prenatal vitamins. Call your Dr. and tell him/her that what was given to you isn't working and that you NEED something else.
I'm sorry to say this, but you HAVE to tell him/her that you were/are taking vicodin (NO MATTER HOW LONG AGO) to make sure that anything new prescribed to you doesn't interfere and possibly do worse to you, your baby, or both of you (like miscarriage or death).
It's OK, there are pleanty of people that do SO much worse and still keep their kids... and go on to be allowed to keep reproducing for some reason. Your best bet is honesty with your Dr. and an honest want to do the right thing.
You'll be fine, and a great mother! Please, get honest with yourself and your Dr. so he/she can help you - it's what they're there for!!

Stop taking it now.
Tell your doctor. They won't take away your baby, but your doc. can try other meds on you in a safe monitored way. Your doc should check you and the baby out to make sure you are both fine. And if you have to wean yourself off the vicodin the doc can help with that. Those drugs are addictive. Stop now and don't make up excuses for continuing. If you do, you are addicted and have a larger problem. Taking drugs you get from friend which aren't prescribed is dangerous - and you should be more responsible than that with your child inside you.

Taking vicodin, even 1/2 pill, at regular intervals every day will develop a physical addiction with the fetus that could result in dangerous withdrawals for the baby, either now or when the baby is born. You need to fess up to the doctor NOW because your baby's health is at stake, and let the doctor figure out what to do...either keep you on it or ease you & the baby off of it. Don't continue to make this situation worse for fear of getting into trouble. Your baby's health should be your #1 concern NOW!

How long have u been taking the vicodin? I don't think ur baby will become addicted, but my concerns would be birth defects. Vicodin is a strong drug, and you wouldn't just hand it out to an infant, would u? Putting it in your system is putting it in your baby's, and i would suggest choosing something else for headaches. Explain to your doctor that the fiorocet isn't working. Did you drink a lot of caffeine before you were pregnant, and give it up once conceiving.? I had awful caffeine withdrawals during my pregnancy, and a little caffeine each day usually eased the headaches. Just a thought

Never take any medication (OTC or Rx) without checking with your doctor first. I don't think Vicodin is safe for pregnancy because a friend just tried to adopt a baby and the mother tested positive for Vicodin in her system and so CPS said since the baby also tested positive, that the baby had to be taken for evaluation for developmental problems.
There are many medications that are safe to take when pregnant that are stronger than Tylenol. If you have migraines, you don't need to suffer with them, just get the right prescription from your doctor that is safe for your baby.

You may be hurting your baby by taking a narcotic. It's not even your prescription, stop taking it and go back to the doctor to let him know that the fioricet is not working. How will you feel if your baby comes out with a defect or brain damage or withdrawl? Do the right thing and go back to the doctor.

If you are only 18 weeks, it will not be in yours or the baby's system when the baby is born, BUT doing that stuff could hurt your baby. I am a migraine sufferer myself, so I can understand where you are coming from, but please don't put that stuff in the baby. I had kidney stones when I was 18 weeks pregnant, and the er doctor injected a pain killer into my iv for it-I think I freaked every day for the rest of my pregnancy-the doc said it was a one time thing, nothing will happen-so KEEP yours a one time thing!

Alright there are alternatives out there for migraines then taking drugs. Talk to you dr and see if perhaps visiting a homeopath might help ...there are certain viatims and aromatherapy solutions out there for migraines( i get the all the time and you might not get them after the baby when your hormones go back to where they should be hormonal changes often trigger migraines) I found a link that might help you with some of your answers without getting your head ripped off by the mostly well meaning ppl on this site. there are times when pregnant its better to continue what you are doing the to stop cold because IF the baby is "hooked" and has to go through withdrawls better to do it after they are born then inutro where they cannot be monitored as closely.

You should NEVER talk anything while pregnant, unless dr. prescribed. You baby can have more serious problems then withdraw, like birth defects. I don't know if they will take your baby away, but why risk it? I'd tell your doctor you been taking it, AND stop immediately!
