No. There is a difference between checks and plaids.

A checkered pattern has separate individual squares of color that don't overlap in any way.
A plaid pattern has vertical and horizontal stripes of different colors that do overlap, usually to make a blending of the two colors at the cross-over.

No. They are two completely different things. A check is two colors, a plaid is a variety of colors.
