kobe USED TO have a reputation of being a selfish ball hog who claimed he wanted to be the best basketball player ever and got criticized by those comparing him to michael jordan. a lot of people hated him for that and continue to do so today. there are those who hate on him for his personal life and what he does off-court. and then there are those who dont like him for the simple fact taht they are not willing to admit he is a great player, especially now. it's like what one person here said... some people are just jealous. the hate started way back in the day when he was young and cocky, but after 11 years in the league he has grown up and now i (and many others) believe he is playing the best basketball of his career.
so for all those kobe haters... go ahead and hate on him all you want, it's not going to stop him from putting up those numbers he does every game because every time people try to knock on him he always makes them pay! kobe for mvp!!!!!

1. The biggest reason he is hated is media slander, most of it is derived from the false accusation that he raped the girl in Colorado. I think that contributes the most to the "Publics" dislike of Bryant.
2. I recall the NIKE commercial that came out after the trial and all that crap was over.
Love me or hate me, Hate me with all your heart, but remember people love me for the same reason.
That has to be the single truest commercial I have ever seen. Kobe is the best individual talent in the NBA and his complete game is more and more apparent each time he steps on the court. Kobe came into the league at a much younger age then Jordan and his ability to mature into a team leader has taken roughly the same course. Kobe has already solidified his spot as one of the 50 best players in NBA history and that legacy will only be enhanced when he wins a title without Shaq.
3. Kobe's swagger, confident or cocky? You make the call but I will not question the ability to back up the swagger. Some people do not like how confident he is on the court but look at all the greats, confidence is required to be elite at any professional sport.
I used to hate Kobe(I live in Portland, can you blame me?), but watching him play makes you respect the guy. Game on the line 00:02 on the clock who would you rather have take that shot?
Think about it....

I am from LA and have always been a Laker fan. I used to like Kobe but not anymore. He is cocky, selfish and a whiner. He complains about every call. This does not set a good example to the young players on the team. The other day, I saw Bynum complain about an obvious foul. I do believe he is the best individual player in the league. It's true he's passing and trusting his teammates more, but that is all for show. He doesn't want to be known as a ball hog. He is just not likeable.

Everybody knows he's a high-caliber player...people hate him because he is arrogant and pompous, not because they are jealous or ignorant. Kobe is just not a team player, and he never will be. It takes more than points to make a great player, it takes a player that knows the concept of teamwork to achieve greatness. In fact, some people like him too much because of ignorance. They think he's the best player, when there are a lot of great players in the league, but some people still think Kobe is the greatest just because Kobe gets all the media attention and the recognition and gets so much hype.

Kobe is the best player right now, forget all that off the court media crap, Jordan had a gambling problem did that stop anyone from liking him, he possibly have cheated on his wife, how much big of a deal was that, no one really cared, all they cared about was seeing this man play, and thats how I am with kobe, I don't really care what he does off the court or how he act, long as I see him play some ball. So all you kobe hater's stop hating!!!

People cannot seem to look past their PERSONAL dislike for him to objectively examine what the man does on the court. Somehow he is a selfish player that is averaging almost 6 assists a game! Since I have been a member of yahoo answers, I have seen Kobe slammed as a player and a person (as if they actually know him personally). The fact is, whether you like him or not, his game gets better every year. At first his critics said he needed to work on his jump shot...he did it. Then he needed to become a better defensive player...to this point he is a 6 time all NBA all defensive selection. Then he needed to make his teamates better....he's averaging 6 assists a game. People may not like him, but any legitimate knock on his game that he has been criticized for, he has drastically improved. That shows dedication, maturity and leadership......all attributes of a champion (yep, he's one of those too!). Any team he's on, is guaranteed 15-20 more victories just by what he brings to the table. Let em hate, the numbers speak for themselves: #4 in scoring, #6 in Field goals made (#5 in attempts), #3 in Free Throws made and attempted, #5 in efficiency scoring and #6 in turnovers per game. Hate on that!!

It's not Kobe the player that they hate, it's Kobe the mediatized individual. People don't know him personally, they can only like or dislike him on the court or by what is said about him in the news... And it turns out his public image is not that good... Plus, he looks really arrogant. That's the only explanation I can give you because he's a heck of a player... But think about that: he's on the all-star starting lineup... so there's gotta be more people that loves him than that hate him!

i think its both. no matter what he has done bad people act like hes the only player in the world of sports even done anything wrong. hes the best player in the nba right now and thats that!
there are many players in sports that have a bad history of doing things outside of there careers, but inside the game you can either love him or hate him but you cant deny the fact that when he plays your fav team your worried the damage he will do.

Because Kobe is everything that is wrong with the NBA. Ego obsessed, team killing, ball hog. Hey the guy has game, no question about that. But let's see if he can grow as a person to match his game. It took MJ a while to realize what it ment to become a basketball legend and not just a great player.

Nobody really hates Kobe because they don't know him personally.
But they do dislike a lot of the things he says and does.
