In the streams in Northern California you can pan for gold. You will find a little gold dust, but not enough to pay for the cost of getting there!

There are some places in Colorado where you can pan for gold; most that I know of are along the Arkansas River. Check with the state of Colorado's tourism department to find specific businesses.

Lots of places. Just look on the Ebay Land section, there are lots of folks that sell gold claims you can buy and go and mine or pan on your claim to your heart's content. They dont cost much either.
