Book your rehearsal space and theatre first.
Sometimes you can use a church or a school to rehearse in and then book the stage for the week of your show. Or you can make your own stage at a community hall.

I know of one community theatre company that started in a person's driveway using lights from Home Depot.

I started a theater company by using a local park's stage. I used it for free and did afternoon theatre performances picnic style. I actually made money, because we did Shakespeare (no licensing fees) and took donations form attendees. Then I used that money to begin my company.

Then apply for licensing the play you want to do. It's very important that you don't advertise a play, until you have the rights.

Make sure you have the rehearsal dates and performance times to hand out at your auditions. So, you get committed actors.

I have a contract that my cast signs, that outlines what I expect and what they are agreeing to timewise. The more organized you are, the better show you will have, and the better cast you will attract.

THEN start advertising your auditions. Choose a name for your company. It will look more professional then just advertising a show.

Make Flyers and Posters and hang them everywhere you can...schools, libraries, etc. Get a write up in the newspaper, find whatever freebies you can take advantage of. Where I live, the coffee places let you post whatever, and I've had a lot of luck advertising auditions this way.

Put an ad in your local newspaper in the theatre section, also post it at the theatre department in the local colleges and university theatre department.
