Just tell me in your words, your understanding of the problem.

And finally is there a way to solve the problem that both parties will accept?

well, of course, not because of that Turkey is bored. there was a war in Cyprus and Turkey just couldnt stand that Turks were being killed and raped. remember! at that time, Turkey and Greece were near a war. but, fortunately, there wasnt a war.

i think Greek side and Turkish side shouldnt become an united because if they fight with each other again in a united country, it can take the other whole countries to a war. i dont see any other solution and just cant understand why people stupidly fight!

It would be interesting to see different perspectives here if they were not biased. But they are and history is what they tell us.
At any rate, Turkey took advantage of Greek infighting and used the excuse of abuse to invade having the blessings of the USA. By the way the two ethnic entities within Cyprus coexisted peacefully till then.
At the time Cyprus was a sovereign country with about 10% Turkish speaking population. As a result of the occupation, Turkiye imported native Turk migrants into the northen part and for the past 30 years they have occupied the old Greek properties.
As the question stands at the moment the Annan plan is not equitable for the Greek Cypriots as it does not allow enough reparations to them. And it would not be fair to ask the generation of Turks that was born and raised in the northen part to move back to Turkey. So there is no easy answer and any solution proposed seems untenable.
Keep in mind that historically the island was Greek in its entirety from antiquity, and was not occupied by Turks till the Turkish hords invaded the area in the 1400s.
Also as a point of interest, northern Cyprus does NOT have UN acceptance as a nation and the only country that regards it as such is Turkey.

I guess you read all the usual stuff on the internet so I am gonna give a different take on the issue. I believe the deep state and the military in turkey need external and internal enemies so that the turkish public can tolerate them in power. Invading Cyprus provides a seemingly easy way for Turkey to have external problems without too much danger since Cyprus is defensless. The sad thing is that the Turksih public still buys the argument that the army is a source of stability. I think the military needs Cyprus to be able to maintain power in Turkey. Right now there is internal strife in Turkey between the islamists and the deep state. Favorite issues will rise again, Cyprus, killing an Armenian, conflict with kurds deepening, threatening to invade Iraq. All these issues will push people to rally around the army. Unfortunately is the Turksih army that creates all these problems.

The history of the Cyprus issue is too big to answer it here but the main reason is that : they invaded Cyprus because they wanted to make turkey bigger.

They had the chance to do it at that time and they used as excuse of their turkish gypsy minority of (10 %) to invade a small country without an army at the moment.

They tried that in 1963 but the USA did let them because that may was a cause of war between Greece and turkey.

In the summer of 1974 there was chaos in Greece (junta) and there was chaos in the USA too (Watergate). With the blessings of Henry Kissinger they took the chance to attack.

The key to understand the Cyprus issue is to know who as much as you can about the protagonists of the story...

As about turkey, is a militaristic state with many complexes about their history. I just remind you that they came from the central asian without civilization, culture or even an alphabet and they took the land of other nations. They committed genocide against Armenians and Pontic Greeks and until today they are at war with the Kurds of turkey.
Just last week they threaded Cyprus with war if Cyprus takes its oils out of Limassol in southern Cyprus !

Bravo to you for asking that question, don't pay attention to all those girls who want to live in a happy pink world. Since there is not another category for Greece, that's the best category.

Hi Cordial,
I am not fanetic, I am not facist and I will not doing any propaganda. I am just say my thinking. You can believe me.
You know, this is Greek Collegues arena. I like my neighbor. :)
First of all, You must know, Turkiye did not invade to Cyprus. In 1974, there was a revolution in Cyprus and this junta wants to join Greece, and these time killed lots of Turkish Cypriot.

You must also know, there is a Guarantor Aggrement with Turkiye, England and Greece. So that, Turkish Government used their own right and protecting the Turkish Cypriot.

That is the problem.

I think, the best solution new Cyprus Government between Northern Turkish and South Cyprus. It will solve maybe Annan Plan or maybe another plan, But the important thing is EQUALITY.
Regards,
Tanju

Turkey and Greece have fought over control of Cyprus for centuries, ever since the time of Alexander the Great and the Ottoman Empire.

A possible solution to the historical challenge would be for the EU to accept Turkish Cypress into the Union; Greek Cyprus has already been accepted. Further, Turkey should be accepted into the Union!

I agree with Assimakis, that this is a travelling forum and not a political one, however, I think that you should ask this question in the Turkish section, as it is them who invaded and apparently they should know the reason...

Please, do not ask this kind of question again on this forum.

Thank you.
