the word independent in cinema has been diluted considerably... it does refer to the financing of the picture, so yes, big companies like that technically don't make indies... but thy have, over the years bought up other smaller film companies or created sub divisions of their brand to make cheaper, less broadly marketed movies... eg fox has fox searchlight pictures.... but true indies are often financed by outside sources, sometimes from surprising places. for example the evil dead (yeah i know it was a long time ago, but bare with me) was financed by wealthy doctors and dentists whom sam raimi (writer/director) approached persoanally... indies are often put forward as business propositions. as for big stars in indie movies.... its debateable, some can do it for a hefty price cut, but usually the film will receive higher financing due to the star's price tag, thus rendering it not an indie.... its a very blurred line nowadays... does that help at all?

I seen this movie last year sometime, and I founf it interesting to say the least! I have a 5 yr old daughter, and I was having a hard time believing that she would ever go to that extent!! It really opened my eyes to what goes on a bit to that age group!!

A deeply disturbing film about the adolesent drug culture in California. I watched it but to be honest it didn't strike me with anything profound or moving. It rehashed alot of subject matter and plot elements that I had seen in countless other drug-related movies.
I can tell I am getting old, I watched the film and kept repeating, "the mom needs to whoop that kid's ***..." over and over again...

I thought it was a close resemblance to another movie called KIDS. Different, yes, but similar. I look at my life when I was 13 years old compared to the kids in both of these movies - man, was I naive! I had barely kissed a guy at 13.

My daughter was 12 when it came out and I went with her to see it so that we could talk about it. She and I had a very eye opening conversation about her friends and kids in school and in the neighborhood and she learned about consequences. So it was a good movie and experience for us.

yes this was a very similar story to my sister's real life story.
she was 14.
the absence of real love in a young teen's life can be very very destructive.
i saw this movie a few months ago and almost cried because of the memories it brought
real life is hard on everyone why do teenagers feel the need to create their own drama?
good luck
darling you have nothing to fear if you are smart and wise.

My 13yr old saw it w/o my perm. I dont think it was appropriate for 13yr olds. Not mine anyway! I thought it was **interesting** but I'm 38.
