depends. the same people that buy macs would own the new volkswagon bugs. If you're into any multimedia editing a mac used to be better, but the latest intel conroe offering levels the playing ground with multimedia editing. The software support still isn't there for the macs, but now that you can run windows on mac machines, you can't really go wrong. I still hear mac owners use the argument of "well at least I'm different" yeah just like how different you were for putting a park bench wing on the back of a civic.

If you're a game get a PC. If surfing the web, loading mp3s on your ipood, and using a clumsy single button mouse are your idea of cool, then a mac is for you.

I bought my laptop over to a friends house for a little drunken world of warcraft fun and he had a horrid time with WoW on his mac. Not enough mouse buttons to bind to, horrid framerate, and just generally a crappy experience. He now owns a PC, but still lets his 8 year old use the mac to surf the web.

Neither is intrinsically better than the other.

Each has strengths and weaknesses. If the things you listed are your primary uses of a computer I might suggest a Mac. They might not be "better" at those things, but they come with what you need to do all of that right out of the box.

Another plus is there are currently no known viruses, spyware, adware etc that infect Macs. So you can surf the web without having to worry about whether some crap is going to install itself. You don't have to worry about keeping your Antivirus, anti-spyware etc software up to date. Although, antivirus wouldn't be a bad idea if you plan on sharing files with Windows PC users, just to make sure you pass an infected file on to a PC friend.

Also too keep in mind: the new Macs are capable of running Windows, so the whole "lack of software" argument is moot. Between being able to run Mac OS X, Windows, just about any Linux distro, and UNIX apps that can be downloaded and compiled in a variety of ways I would say that the Mac has the ability to run the MOST software.

Edit: LOL, TheDream. Macs use the same RAM and Hard Drives as Windows PCs. LMAO. You have a point about the video cards, though.

Even in Multimedia now, the Multimedia versions of Windows earn higher ratings than Mac. Apple is working on this, but they lost ground because they were satisfied with the way they were, instead of breaking new ground and staying ahead. I am a user of both and I feel the playing field is now even between the two. However, if you are a gamer, you will not be able to find many of the more popular games in Mac format. Other than gaming, they will both do the same thing. Both are subject to crashes and lockups. (Regardless of what Mac's stupid commercials say.) Both run TCP/IP and are networkable. Both have versions of Microsoft Office, if you need that type of familiar software. Mac has not seen the malicious attacks that Windows has, but times are changing. They are starting to release as many security patches as Microsoft does on a regular basis.

If you are familiar with Windows and you like it, I would stick with a PC. If you are in the mood for a change, or if you like to fold under the pressure of your friends, a Mac is a good machine. Not BETTER, but as good. Make the decision from the standpoint of which format will fit your needs the best. If you are a gamer, Mac should be out of the picture. All the other things you mentioned can be done equally as well on either machine.

PS. contrary to the tales of "No Known Viruses, Worms, etc. for Macs". There are viruses written and in the wild. The vulnerabilities recently found in Word and Excel documents had strains that were written specifically for Macs. Also referrence the following link.

Granted most of these are coming in via Microsoft programs written for Mac, but the malicious code was written to violate the Mac.

person-friendly false impression and clearly information superhighway hype. The factors for a mac and the factors for a laptop are the comparable. Apple is utilising the comparable processor (Intel) because of the fact the laptop's. there's a reasonable distinction interior the quantity of virus assaults of mac vs laptop. yet particularly you're paying greater for a mac with the aid of label. i will help you be attentive to this although, in case you would be doing heavy picture layout or video enhancing a mac on occasion would be greater effectual, yet that is with the aid of working equipment and not the hardware. while you're basically utilising this laptop to do record enhancing, email, and information superhighway surfing save your mom and dad funds via getting a laptop. in case you have an activity in any form of huge gameplay evade the mac, it may play some yet no longer all video games. particularly that is as much as you, yet i might say carry out a little heavy analyze until now you purchase a laptop, locate out for your self fairly of basically announcing nicely Apple says purchase each little thing via them so I could.

This is my experience. OSX on PC kicks OSX on MAC where the sun don' t shine. It was the weirdest thing. So from there I would say Apple has the better software and PC's have the better hardware.

For gaming and office productivity PC's rule. When it comes to video and music editing Mac is great. All depends on what you want to do, and of course how you wanna crash.

Depends. If you're not proficient with computers, get a Mac. Otherwise, I'd get a PC. You have more control over a PC than a Mac. Or get a PC with Vista.

Depends on what your priority is. If your priority is playing games then buy a PC. Or if your priority is protecting your computer & your identity then get a Mac. Yes, eventually do get both as your plan is.

I started on Mac, but am now on PC. I think that they are both equally great. However, it is much easier to navigate through a Mac.

depends on what you want to do with it, you gain more control in a PC . The components like RAM, hard drive, video cards and cases are easier to find than Mac's parts if you want to upgrade.
