Well as far back as I can remember and we talking NWA. I would say at one point Sweet Brown Sugar held the belt. Then you got Tony Atlas, and Ron Simmons breifly.

Viscera, Booker T, Shad Gaspard, Shelton Benjamin, JTG, Mark Henry, Godfather. Now if you meant heavy weight champion, there is only one-King Booker. Sucks that of the hundreds of thousands of wrestlers in the world there has only been one african american to hold the World Heavyweight Title. And in modern day times only 3 have held major titles. Ron Simmons (WCW) King Booker (WCW and WWE's version of WCW title) and Ron Killings (2-Time NWA-TNA champion). This sure doesn't resemble NBA NFL and MLB ***** success. Seems like Wrestling and Hockey are similar when it comes to african american success. Oh yeah Lashley. And to the person who made the comment about not letting "blacks fool you with PC talk"
Hopefully you're a native american, if not, your comment has no validity at all. The question had nothing to do with whether or not african americans are from africa or america we're talking wrestling chief, not race origin, tighten up G, stick to the script!

Booker T (as King Booker) was World Champ on the Smackdown show for a few months. Until just recently. And like they said earlier, Bobby Lashley is the ECW (owned by WWE) World Champ at the moment.
And then there's The Rock, who is half black and was World Champ several times before becoming a movie star.
If you just mean "heavyweight" but not a world champ, then there is/was Shelton Benjamin, D-Von Dudley, Orlando Jordan, Ahmed Johnson, Mark Henry, The Godfather, Viscera ... lots of guys.
