I don't think it matters who the "same at home" person is but in such circumstances the money needs to be considered "joint". We have a joint check account and I just withdraw money as I need to ie for groceries etc. However, if I want to buy something more expensive for myself or for the household, I have to check with my hubby first. And he does likewise even though he is the one earning the money. Anything under $100 is ok, more requires a joint decision. We have a schedule of when big bills are due and I make sure that those months I'm not "out shopping". I did feel strange at first (when I stopped working) but now (years later) it feels fine. I work, I work running the house and the kids so I have a real job except its unpaid.
