We are by nature fearful, but I think you can go a long way to erradicate most of your fear. Of course, the majority of people don't, but it can be done. I think the natural opposite of fear is love, so the more you can foster that within yourself (a hard task, I'm sure), the less room you'll have for fear.
I think it's interesting what people said about fear keeping you alive and sane. Consider that. If you removed all fear, you would probably move on to some other reality, and you may no longer be considered alive or sane. But it would probably be a lot better than this...

We will always be confronted with situations that may stir feelings of fear, but having wisdom we will always return to the stability and truth in God. His perfect love casts out fear. Fear is false evidence appearing real. It is possible to overcome fear but it is a process.

I think it would be foolish to fear nothing, but I also think that fears of certain things can be overcome. Fear in moderation of certain things can be healthy, life-saving, etc.
But fear of something like the #13 should be overcome so that it doesn't affect one's life on a daily basis.

loss of fear would be callused. And a callused person has no remorse for what he does.
So I would say having fear is a good thing.
Being afraid of fear is not.
Having fear to guide your actions may lead you down a path of doing great things or a path to know where.
Let your fear of things weigh your actions.
Pro and con, what would happen if, think before you act.
So I think we all have to have fear in our life, but not be afraid to live, not be rulled by fear, but under fear.

Yes it is possible to get rid of fear through operant conditioning, prayer, and meditation. It is all in perception, it is what we perceive to be fear that makes us afraid.

Possible? Perhaps. But extremely difficult, and pointless. To some extent, fear has to exist. It's a survival instinct. It keeps you alive.

We can overcome our fears but not get rid of them. Fear can actually be quite healthy. If you are unafraid to play in heavy traffic, you won't last too long.

try this: exercise a lot, meditate diligently, and do a lot of energy work: tai chi, chi kung, yoga, reiki, etc. in a disciplined, diligent manner. also, read: *the complete idiot's guide to toltec wisdom*. in 3 months compare your "fear level" to what it presently is. just think how it will be some years after that if you continue the various practices. good luck ;-)
