The superstition is actually that you and your significant other should not look in the mirror together, as it brings bad luck between you.
Mirrors are often associated with death, and the devil. This is why they are a source of "bad luck" superstitions.

I could only find two Russian superstitions relating to mirrors (quoted from wikipedia):
Breaking a mirror isn't considered bad luck in Russia, but looking at one's reflection in a broken mirror is. And the effect is more severe than 7 years of bad luck.
Returning home for forgotten things is a bad omen. It is better to leave it behind, but if returning is necessary, one should look in the mirror before leaving the house again. Otherwise the journey will be bad.

I am Russian and I was always told it's bad luck if you and your girlfriend look in the same mirror - you would end up fighting over the same boyfriend!
The site below confirms that. It says: Two people shouldn't look in the same mirror - they would fall in love with the same person and would be unhappy.
Not sure how it works if the two people are of different sex. Although everything is possible nowadays. :)
