Oi. I used to have the same problem. Don't worry too much about it; Many religious types make it a point to hate with a passion everybody that does not believe that everything happened just like they say it did, because they say it did. These aren't really the people that you want to hang about with, anyway, as they are not nice, talk about creepy things that make people that don't have some odd, inbred mental block very uncomfortable, and will never convert no matter, what, just like any true Atheist. Just remember, because it is all that they ever knew in their early years, religion seems as natural and obvious to these people as science and logic seems to us. Most people, given an honest choice early in life, find Atheism more plausible. Still, they are people and need to be respected, and it is good that you do not lower yourself to their level of petty and useless argument. Also, don't become disillusioned because somebody dislikes you just for being an Atheist or even just because they won't hear you out. To be that way would be hypocritical. Believe me, I've been an Atheist since I was four (though I was brought up Fundie, the people that mostly comprise the Atheist haters, which means I have had a troubled childhood, to say the least), and most of my friends are Christian. As of yet, I've only ever convinced one person that they were wrong and that there really is nothing but what we see and know, or could know, but I still get along quite well with those friends. So, the simple answer is just not to worry about it. Some people are happier believing in a god, anyway, as it excuses them from worry, and, in our modern world, I can't blame them. Some people think that the path to happiness is hating their fellow men, and they are best just not bothered with, and will never understand how an Atheist can be happy.

In the Declaration of Independence itself. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Does this only pertain to heterosexuals?
I did a college research paper on a similar subject and recieved a 100 on it. I would be more than happy to send you a copy. Perhaps you could use some of the sources I used.

Definitely recommend stonewall too, it's highly regarded by Parliament and most gay groups. It's responsible for influencing much of the changes toward equality that we already have.
Remember too that UK law is now also influenced by European law. Human rights laws have been part of that trend.
