I got -1 for the answer

The best way to check your answer is to plug it into your equation and see if it makes sense:

-3(0)=2(-9)+3
0=-18+3
0=-15
As you can see, x cannot be -1. Here is the method I used to solve the equation:

3x-3x -3 = 3x + 2x - 16 + 3
-3 = 5x - 13
13-3 = 13 + 5x - 13
10 = 5x
5x = 10
5x/5 = 10/5
x = 2

-3(3)=2(-6)+3
-9=-12+3
-9=-9
