Today, as I was walking to a bus stop, I all of a sudden had a horrible, intense pain in the back of my left thigh. Nowhere else. I have no idea what it is, it seems like it could be a muscle or likelly a nerve problem. Now, I have to walk a weird way, and I don't know what it is. If I don't walk on the ball of my left food (near toes), I get that horrible, stiff-like, shooting pain. I'm a 17 year old girl who has never had any medical problems. Should I be concerned?

Monetary consideration: Chiropractor may be able to negotiate a rate for an uninsured patient. PTs are usually used to billing insurance and may not be as willing to negotiate an individual rate. Check out gentler chiropractors. Lots of new techniques these days that are more gentle than traditional chiropractors. Some gentle chiropractic methods include: non-force, activator method, network chiropractic and sacro occipital technique. Tip: do a search on Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction and psoas muscle strain. Symptoms include pain shooting down leg. If you think that's what you have, do a search for a PT or chiropractor who specializes in treating those conditions. Either a PT or a chiropractor can help. More important is finding the right person, one who is patient, will listen and has experience and success treating your condition. Hope you get an answer to your pain..

It could be caused by a sciatic nerve problem. The sciatic nerve can be "pinched" causing excruciating pain down one leg or in the thigh. Try to go to a chiropractor, as they seem to be the best for aiding a person with a "pinched" nerve.

I have gone to MD's for painful "pinched" nerves, but all they will do is prescribe pain medication. A chiropractor will actually work to resolve the problem through manipulation of the spine, hips, and neck.

absolutely be concerned, tell your parents immediately. Having to walk on the ball of your foot, and not being able to step without putting your heel down is a serious sign that you may have a blood clot in your leg, otherwise known as DVT or deep vein thrombosis. Not being ablr to flex your foot upwards (toes pointed to ceiling) is what is called a "positive Homans sign" and is indicative of a blood clot. You need immediate medical attention... and absolutely do not rub this area, you risk dislodgement of the clot

Pulled hamstring. No, just put some heat on it when you get home. A heating pad would be great. Or take a hot bath. When your leg is nice and warm, stretch it--gently--and rub the muscle. Take some Ibuprofen, it will help the pain and the inflammation of the area.
