It really just feels that way. You are more susceptible to all the angst that life is throwing at you, and you are less able to deal with the stuff. Take a deep breath, try to break things down into smaller problems, keep breaking them small enough so you can deal with them one at a time. Some you will see will resolve themselves, others will require work. Being relaxed and calm makes a big difference.
Wondering which ones are small.....ask yourself this...One year from now, will this matter? If you say no, then let it go.

Though sometimes completely unrelated things go with the rest of your day (everything either going your way, or not going your way), I think a lot of it is psychological. Something bad will happen, and this has a negative effect on your outlook, which in turn has a negative effect on your composure and decision making ability, and that, more often than not, will cause more problems. That, and the afore mentioned negative effect on your outlook will usually cause you to view even the minor problems as worse than they really are. When one thing goes wrong, it becomes much easier to focus on the negative, rather than the positive.

Everyone has problems. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and make the best of it. And rmember, there is always someone worse off than you are. That's just the way life works. Try counting your blessings - and I am sure you have many.

I think because when something significant happens it sets off a domino effect rather than being an isolated incident.
