I just graduated with BA in Spanish and Global and Multinational studies.
I've been looking for full-time jobs and so far I've been offered only $10 with some or w/o benefits. ( I checked out some office jobs and hospitality jobs). I calculated that w/o taxes $10 per hour makes only 19 K per year. If you subtract taxes it is even less.
My question is, do you any entry-level job that pays at least $12 per hour?
Thanks

Global and Multinational Studies major does not qualify me for anything right now! This major helps one to get into a graduate school. After Masters Degree I should be able to receive a job with non-profit organizations or government. However, I am not in a graduate school yet (I will hear from them in April). Also, I am not that sure that I want to be sent away abroad.
However, I want to pick up teaching Spanish. I am a certified tutor. I think with my BA it will take me a year to receive NJ teacher's certification. For this year, I need a job to survive.
I am ashamed. My parents put so much money into my graduation, and I cannot even get a decent job and cannot live on my own.
Thank you for your responses.

There are plenty... but you have to be both aggressive AND patient in the process.
For starters, you should probably look into your college's career services. They can be big help, even if sometimes all they can do is direct you to relevant job fairs and such.
If that doesn't pan out, consider applying to work for a government agency. The government is BY FAR the largest employer. Sure, it's doubtful you'll be a millionaire working for the gov't, but the salary for a person with a college degree is plenty better than $10/hour. Plus, I would expect that plenty of the agencies would really need folks who may know Spanish. Also, don't forget that government job opportunities exist at all levels (i.e. Federal, State, Local).
In the meantime, yes you may have to find a temporary job, but all the while keep on looking for that somehting better.
Last but not least, simply letting people know that you are looking for something can go a long way. You never know what kind of opportunities may open up as a result of someone passing along your name to a potential employer.
Best of luck. Hope this helped a little.

The pay depends on what the job is.
Here in California, most entry level jobs start at $8 or $9 per hour. Elsewhere, I'd imagine that it would be even less because the cost of living is lower.

You are the second young person (Answers) who has graduated
with a college degree, and can't find a job paying a decent wage?
The other person, had a degree in Japanese, you indicated Spanish? I might ? what Global and Multinational Studies qualifies you to do? Before my children went to college and invested their time and my money in an education, we discussed
what do you want to do with your life. What kind of job, will
you be qualified to do when you graduate, and what will it pay, is there a need for those skills? I am sorry that I can't be of much help, have you tried your college job placement centers?
I know that education (teaching) is always in demand. Spanish in schools is a definate advantage. Many college classes might
give you enough math, history and reading skills to be able to help the young people in schools. The military is always looking for "A FEW GOOD MEN" and the college is a definate plus there,
and your language skills also.... Global Studies? Yes, see the globe first hand, and the pay is better than $12 per hour? I think, benefits are good also! I went into the military out of college (ROTC) and it was a great adventure! Saw a lot of the world, found out how much of it was water (US Navy).. Good Luck to you!

Try working for an insurance company. A good possibility in California is Auto Club of Southern California.

Get a job as a factory worker. They might consider you over qualified for the job though.
