You can talk about various aspects of donation -
For example how only 1% of people die in such a way that they are candidates for donation (they must be on a ventilator and subsequently declared brain dead).
One person can donate up to 8 organs, and can improve the lives of up to 50 people through a tissue donation (corneas, skin, bones)...you could talk about all of the different uses of donated tissue- it's amazing what can be done.
You can talk about the need for donation - how there are over 95,000 people waiting for an organ, break it down by organs needed or by region.
You can talk about OPOs (organ procurement organizations), which are the organ recovery agencies in charge of facilitating organ donation and transplantation in each region.
Depending on where you live and how much time you have before your presentation, you can get in touch with your local opo and request brochures and goodies to give away at your presentation.
Good luck!

RE:
Is organ donation a subject to give an informative speech over?
I have to give an informative speech and was wondering if organ donation was a good subject and if so, what would I inform the audience about? It is a 5-7 minute speech. Please, any help would be great!!
Or any other subject that is good for an informative speech.

I had a kidney/pancreas transplant and my granddaughter used it for several papers/speeches. Tell about the different types of transplants, what causes people to need transplants, go over the requirements used for a person to be able to receive/donate an organ; list some of the medications we have to take and their side effects; also the prognosis.
Try typing "organ transplants" into your search engine and you'll find enough info for a 60 minute speech! Good luck!

Yeah, sounds great. And, you might want to include in your speech the growing concern that poor people will probably end up having to give or sell their organs to rich people as time goes on, and how Jehovah's Witnesses won't do organ donations because it's like giving blood. Two very interesting facts!

LOVE your question! YES I am an organ donor and I have made sure that my family knows my wishes. I have a girlfriend who's father had a liver transplant and is doing well. Giving life to another is the ultimate gift. I hope everybody who reads this will sign the forms and make their wishes known. Thanks for the great question. I'm curious to see what others say.

Excellent topic. Inform them on the ability of making themselves available to have an organ taken from them in the event of a death. The benefits to the recipient and family would be beyond words. To give life to someone who has no chance at it or to give sight to the blind, what a truly unselfish act. Good Luck.
