A lease is a contractual rental agreement that is valid for a specific length of time. The typical length of time for an apartment lease, for instance, is 6 months to a year. During that time, both the lessor and the lessee are bound by the terms of the contract. Once the contract is over, neither party is bound any further.

A lease is a basic contract between you (the tenant) and the landlord (usually the owner of the property). This contract establishes how much is rent, when is it due, any extra fees that are involved (ex. late payments, utilities ect.) it also states when your time renting that place is up. It is very important to read everything and to agree with it, becuse once signed by both parties..a lease is binding contract.
