my husbands cousin had this as well and her baby was born without a brain because of it...she could have decided to terminate the pregnancy but decided to keep going..Im not being goofy here or trying to scare you because if your doctor is going to give you injections then your baby will be fine....she should start taking the extra b12 and folate before you start trying to have another...your dr will be able to put her on it.... that way you wont run into this problem again....hope this helps and that i didnt freak you out.

It probably will not harm the baby now that you know. She should eat alot of green leafy vegetables, that is what folate means.
Spinach, escarole, etc.

This is common lots of people have this. Just make sure she follows the doctors orders and everything should be fine.

it might if she ignores the problem,i am surprised the doc didn,t actually give/recomend somekind vitamin to help the situation.there,s vitamins such as the one you mentioned that you can get over the counter at any pharmarcy.but veggies will help lots to help avoid this deficiency.ask your doc on the next visit what he/she suggest.goodluck.

Actually be thankful they they caught the problem- a lack of folic acid can cause severe neurological deformities (spina bifida). Your girl and your kid should be just fine.
