I asked if the US PS3 works in Europe and the community voted Superdork's response "Why wouldn't it work? It's just a machine. It's not like the US PS3 knows that it's in Europe, so it's going to stop working". DVD's are regionalised as are some computer games (to prevent global counter-feiting) so there's a good chance the US PS3 won't work in Europe!!

If you do some research, you will find out that all PS3 games will not be locked to any region.

This means you can buy your PS3 anywhere, and ALL PS3 games will work on it.

PS2 games from the UK may not work on the US PS3 as they do have region codes. The same will happen with DVD's or Blu-Ray discs. This you will need to buy in the US.

The pro is that you can then buy DVD's from the US which is much cheaper than buying them in the UK. Of course, it depends on how often you travel to the US or know people that will bring titles back for you.

I am thinking of buying one in the US also because I can't wait forever to get the PS3. I will then just play my UK DVD's on my PS2 or other cheap multi-region DVD player which you could get for less than £20 from Sainsburys or Argos.

Not only will you only be able to play US games, but any DVDs and Blue Ray discs will have to be in NTSC format to be compatible with the US PS3. Most European movie releases are in PAL format, which won't work unless you have a PAL PS3/player. As the guy above me stated, you'd also need a voltage converter. Just wait and go with the European model.

It will work if you get a voltage converter, but it will only work with US titles as its coded to region 1

Maybe one day someone will be able to chip it as they did with the PS2, but the coding is much harder on the PS3 to hack so I wouldn't expect it to work any time soon.

Remember the voltage in the UK and Europe is 220 volts, whereas in the US it is 110 volts
