It says depp turned down lead roles in Titanic, speed, matrix and interview with the vampire on wikipedia,
so my question is who would he have played in interview with the vampire? which character? and what do you'all think about him turning these movies down, i mean these movies were the biggest blockbusters of our time.

I could see Johnny Depp as more of Lestat than Louis since he can get that sophisiticated yet drk and evil feel about him, I think, so he would have suited Lestat more than Louis. As for turning down these movies, I'd say he just wasn't interested. He's never really chosen to be in a movie because he thought it would be successful. He's chosen roles because he liked them and he wanted to play them. So perhaps he just didn't like the roles in Titanic, Speed, Matrix etc or he felt that he wasn't the right person to play them.

I could definitely see him as Lestat...

I was highly disappointed when it was announced that Tom Cruise would play that role, but I was pleasantly surprised by his portrayal of Lestat...however, that being said, I think Lestat would have been better suited for Johnny Depp.

The fact that he turned this movies down, well...that's his choice. I definitely couldn't see him in Speed or Matrix...and honestly not in Titanic. He obviously made the decisions he felt best for him and found his own little niche with quirky characters and Pirates of the Carribean.

I agree with Sunidaze. I think it shows confidence and integrity that he can pick and choose and she's right to say that Speed and Matrix were'nt for him. He would also have been quite a lot younger when "Vampire" came out - maybe not long after Edward Scissorhands and felt like something more jolly.

I'm glad he turned down The Matrix. Because even though, Mr. Reeves is not a great actor, the role was perfect for him.

I seriously doubt Titanic.I learned that the Wikipedia cannot always be trusted as a credible source of information.

"Depp promised to himself that after his contract on the series [21 Jump Street] had expired, he would only appear in films that he felt were "right" for himself."

"Depp has also said that he specifically chose to appear in films that he found personally interesting, rather than those he thought would succeed at the box office."

Lestat. It shows he's in charge of his own life, by picking only the work he wants to do. Good for him!
