Your motor may have died. Depending on the age of the washer it might just be just as cheap to go get a new one as opposed to getting it fixed.

How often do you drive your washing machine, and how many miles do you get per gallon when you do? If you don't, why are you asking under cars and transportation?

But...spinning and draining are both controlled by that belt under it that has either broken and needs to be replaced or has come off and needs to be put back on. If the washer is full of water, drain it first. just lower the drain hose and the water will run out, catch it in a bucket until you have it empty enough that you can prop it up enough to see under it. See where the belt is supposed to be? If it fell off, put it back on. If it broke, take the old belt with to the store to get a new one.

Could be a belt, or if your machine doesn't have a belt it has a coupler that connects the motor and drive gears for the drum. Some are made of plastic and break when the machine gets overloaded. I replaced the coupler in my machine last year. Had to remove the entire body of the machine and pull the motor and gears apart under the drum. It was only a $10 part, but a pain to fix. You may want to call a repairman if your not mechanically inclined. You can also check http://groups.msn.com/Appliantology/homepage.msnw that is where I figured out how to fix my machine.

chances are the belt broke if you can still hear the motor running when u turn it on then it is the belt .lift it and see if the belt is broke then write down the serial number and take the old belt to the appliance store.if u can't hear the motor than check to make sur it is plugged in and u didn't blow a fuse.if there is power than the motor quit. call an appliance shop they usaully charge 20 bucks if u take it to them to tell you what is wrong

sounds like the belt broke on it.
get the part number from it, put in a yahoo search bar and you'll be able to find a diagram of your washer. from there, see if you think you can replace the belt on your own. If you can get a size of it, you can goto an autoparts store and get one for about $10-$15. From an appliance source, double that. rubber is rubber.

If it's during a delicates cyle, it may have a "soak period" that will start up again in about a minute. If it stopped working altogether, than you may have an electrical issue.
