I want to know how long a doctor will typically let a woman go over her due date before inducing her. I have asked to be induced twice already. I will be seeing my doctor for my second stress test tomorrow at the 41 week mark. My doctor also knows that with hyperemesis and my being in school full time; the pregnancy has been miserable for me. My husband lost his job in December and so I had to start back in school to finish my last semester in early January.
Doctor stripped mebranes last week at 40 weeks, but still nothing. I am a fingertip dilated with the cervix soft. I just get the feeling that this baby is not going to come all on her own before the 42 week mark, and I am extremely ready to be done with the uncomfortableness and daily vomitting.

Thanks for all of the input. Some of you mentioned that what pregnancy it is might make a difference. This is my 2nd pregnancy. I had twin girls 7 years ago!

My doctor said up to two weeks over your due date... as long as the "stress tests" came back showing the baby was doing fine.

The longest they will let a woman go is 42 weeks. You definitely don't want to try to be induced before that if your body isn't ready. You'll just cause yourself a lot of pain during the induction (they won't let you get an epidural until your about 4-5 cm). and real contractions are a walk in the park compared to ones brought on by petocin, trust me. I was induced at 42 weeks and it was quite painful. Labor starts instinctly unlike when it naturally comes and you don't always dilate, leading to more c-sections. Good luck and don't force it it. Your dr is the expert and will know when is right.

Normally 2 weeks over due is the latest. I had that happen with my fist but fortunatly i finally went on my own 5 days over due. A lot of Doctors are told not to induce before 42 weeks unless its an emergency. Sucks i know! As far as being sripped. I was stripped twice with my first between 38-39 weeks cause i was already diated 4 cm, but i still went over due. Your baby jsut isnt ready yet. I know your miserable and feel like you gonna be pregnant forever, but i promise your almost done. It could be any moment. Keep your head up, you doing great!

I would never allow a doctor to induce me, unless there were already complications. The baby will come when he/she is ready. In the past, the complication may have been that the baby was too large and got stuck, killing mother and child. But these days, a c-section would prevent that problem from happening. My mother had 13 children. Of those, she had 12 in Central America, and went 3-4 weeks overdue with each of us born there. She never took any drugs or had any epidural and she was fine and the babies were all fine. No complications. By the 12th one, only minutes went by between her water breaking and my youngest brother being born. We moved to Canada after that where she had my youngest sister. The doctor told her to go to the hospital when she was 2 weeks overdue, but she didn't understand what they were going to do. They induced her. She went into the worst labor she ever had. They gave her an epidural with her not knowing that it would also slow down the labor. Her last delivery is the only one that she actually regrets. She had no problem with the others that went 3-4 weeks overdue.

They will not let you go past 2 weeks of your due date. It's not good for you or the baby. They'll put you in the hospital, induce labor, and break your water. If that doesn't do it then they may have to do an emergency c-section! I had one and it's not as bad as it sounds!

Generally they will not allow you to go over 14 days of your due date, because then the babies growth becomes constricted in the womb.
I have gone through 3 inductions myself and I can tell you they aren't pleasant-however neither is being overdue. My best advice is to tell your doctor YOU WANT an induction scheduled- STAT.
If you are merely asking, then the doctor is free to say yes or no- however, if you go in and TELL THEM "Hey, I want induced, now!" Chances are, they'll listen.
Best of luck, and congrats on your new little one!

Usually at about 42 weeks they will induce you. But it was my experience that being induces was a lot harder and more painful than going into labor naturally.

They won't let you go past 42 weeks. Ask again about an induction...that you are totally miserable...not sleeping and need to have this baby or you aren't going to have any energy for the delivery.

I think its only 2-3 weeks. I know they said having sex can induce labor, or help. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you have a happy life.
