Separate the decimal into its whole part and it's non-whole part:

2.65 = 2 + 0.65

0.65 is just 65/100, so one way of writing the mixed number is "2 65/100". But to put it in simplest form, you have to reduce the fractional part. Both 65 and 100 are divisible by 5, so this becomes 13/20. So your mixed number is "2 13/20".

2 13/20

You get the fractional part by first expressing it as 65/100. The numerator and denominator have a common factor of 5, so you now divide them both by that 5. So then, 65/100 = 13/20. There's now no further common factor, so this is the most reduced form you can get for this fraction.

Another way of writing it is 53/20, but that is what is called an "improper fraction." (Personally, I don't find it "improper," in that it doesn't offend my delicate sensibilities in any way; however, "improper" is the traditional term used for a fraction whose value exceeds unity.)

Live long and prosper.

POSTSCRIPT : Note that 'daanzig' has now added "or 2-13/20" to his/her original answer. Apart from other possible observations, I'll simply note that the " - " in that way of writing it is ambiguous. Could it really mean "minus"? THAT is why it is not generally used when typing fractions; instead, a space is conventionally inserted between the integer and fractional parts. This is not so necessary when writing such numbers by hand, if the division sign is a horizontal bar written somewhat above the line that the rest of the writing stands on, rather than as a forward slash.

Live long and prosper.

since .65 is in the hundreths spot(said sixty-five hundreths) you can put it over 100 so it would be 2 65/100.now, the fraction needs to be simplified and the highest common factor betwwen 65 and 100 is 5, so divide both numbers by 5 and your answer should be 2 13/20

i hope it helps!!
