Today I went to the pet store and was asking questions about anoles. I have a 10 gallon tank with hermit crabs, but I think some have died (They buried themselves and been buried for about a month to two months). I told the clerk I was going to put anoles in the tank if my hermit crabs died, because the hermit crab and anoles needs are very simular. The clerk said I could put both in the same tank but not to use sand. My tank has half sand and half bed a beast soil, hermit crabs like both. I was just questioning if I still kept both the sand and bed a beast soil, also questioning about the crickets I would feed the crabs. I love my crabs and I'm sure I woud love anoles also. I would want anything to go wrong. What do you's think. Thanks

the main reason i would not reccomend this is because hermit crabs can carry alot of mites, that arent harmful to them but can be fatal to other reptiles. crickets are needed to be fed to the anoles, and crickets will destroy the hermit crabs shells.

The crickets could be harmful to the crabs; i would not reccomend this. Also; im not sure how an anole would react to the salt water that you have to give the hermit crabs.

I used to have Anoles and at school we had hermit crabs in the science classes.

Anoles are quite difficult to keep healthy and alive, it's possible they're just dying for other reasons.

There's no reason they cannot survive together, they're not predator nor pray in nature and can survive in the same habitat.

I'd stop using sand completely or maybe just a small bowl of it for the crabs.

not hamsters. ammonia build up is stinky and unhealthy you can put in it... 2 small goldfish or onoe big one 2-3 chinese firebelly newts 2-3 hermit crabs 2 green anole lizards 1 gecko a bunch of smaller fish that get along like barbs or danios 2 mice, although they should be kept in a cage with bars for ventilation 1-2 albino clawed frogs hope this helps

While the two have similar needs for heat, humidity, etc., I would not keep them together in such a small tank- the hermits want water and the anoles want trees/plants. Maybe in a bigger tank.

I also don't think I would add a different species until I was better at taking care of one.

your hermit crabs are not dead!! They are molting. Just like a snake or reptile sheds their skin as they grow a hermit crab sheds it's exoskeleton. They burrow underground to protect themselves and to help with the molting. DO NOT DISTURB THEM THIS CAN KILL THEM!!! It is a very stressful time for them and they need to be left alone. It takes about a month or two depending on their size. They will occasionally come up for food. Otherwise they will come up when they are ready. I know this is an old post but if you still have hermit crabs or want them ago and need help or information I am happy to help..

The shop was talking rubbish. Please dint mix the two. Anoles come from a simular environment but salt water would kill them, the crabs carry mites that would potentially kill them, and crabs are very territorial and would probably hurt a unsuspecting anole
