I lived in Orange County, California in 1984-1987. Actually it was much cleaner than LA. I remember NYC was the dirtiest city I've been to in America. I went to Fairfax County and Arlington, VA and they were splendid and very clean.

Now then, I've always been told that Switzerland, Austria and Scandinavia were much cleaner than America; in general of course. I later read that Canada was cleaner than America...my question is: Are there cities in America that are cleaner than the abovementioned countries? Are there places in America cleaner than the cleanest cities in Europe? If yes, then where are they located?

I do beleive that New England, Minnesota or Washington State could be very very clean...but cleaner than Europe and Canada?

Larger cities in the upper midwest are very clean, both in appearance and air quality. Sioux Falls, SD; Fargo, ND; St. Cloud, MN; Rochester, MN; Des Moines, IA; Omaha, NE...all nice, clean cities.

you must've been in some pretty scummy places in the US , because generally the european cities i've been to, the businesses looked horrible compared to the ones in the states. dimly lit, dirty floors, dilapidated furnishings, etc etc.
imo it is MUCH cleaner in the average US establishment.
i can only laugh at whoever says Canada is cleaner in general than the US, yeah and mexico is too, i'm sure
