and then at the end of the whole restore process it says cannot restore nothing has changed on your computer, but i no that there has been changes done in my audio devices and other stuff, i tried to restore to the start of january and also some other dates but i keep getting the same massage cannot restore I'm running windows xp sp2

It sounds like you have'nt been setting 'restore points'. If there are no restore points then the computer cannot restore to anything. Its only option (which you have to specify) is a complete reinstallation. You can tell if you have 'restore points' because they are highlighted in the 'Restore' calendar window. You should set a restore point every week....you never know!!?

Windows xp sp2 has nothing to do with system restore. If you got that message after system restore is completed it means that there is not enough data for your pc to restore. Create another starting point and try again. A point to remember is if the restore operation takes a long time...there is something serious with your pc.

Have you been creating restore points? You can only restore back to a restore point.

It does not restore specific settings or anything liek that or files deleted. It will restore drivers that were overwritten or registry entries that have been altered.

sounds like a virus Fix virus install protection then shut restore off
