For one thing, its how the parents raise them from when they are very young....like toddler age. If they do not receive alot of attention, interaction, positive encouragement, the parents are not involved with their kids, practically have the nanny/babysitter or daycare raise them, well what do you expect? Out of control children. thats what. I suppose if you live half your young life at the gym, at soccer practice, after school activities etc. etc. (overscheduling = no family time) thats what happens. We have become a society that is afraid of DISCIPLINING our kids.

Meaner these days compared to what? Last week, last year, last century?
Compared to when I grew up, kids are probably just as disrepectful (afterall that was the '60's). They are far less aggressive since most sit in front of a TV or computer all day with no hopes or dreams of doing anything other than sitting in front of a TV or computer all day. In my day we all knew we were going to Vietnam to kill someone in a few years.... or be killed... so we probably tended to be more agressive. As for meaner, that may be because they sit in front of a computer all day turning their bodies and minds into bowls of gelatin. Since the human body and brain isn't designed to be gelatinous they take out their frustrations on others since part of the overall climate these days is that personal responsibility is out the window, and its gotta be your fault cuz it sure ain't mine!

Well for one, if you watch the kids cartoons on Disney and cartoon network there's allot of fighting on the shows...same with being disrespectful, the shows are acting as their babysitters now....They see TV as reality. Its not just TV though, the Internet is raising kids also. Some of the most popular Internet games have a ton of violence in them.
I guess basically there's no discipline, no rules, the parents are gone so much that they don't really have a part in their kids lives anymore. Television is teaching the kids and raising them...
Just my opinion

It isn't just kids. Look at how adults act. They are no better. How can the kids learn to be kind and respectful if they don't have a good example.
The parenting today leaves a lot to be desired as well. Kids are not being disciplined and they are given every single thing that they want, so they grow up thinking that the world owes them.

Because their parents have failed at doing their 'parenting job'. The parents are letting the kids raise themselves and that's wrong.
A child will not learn how to be respectful unless they are taught.
Parents MUST be part of their child's life.
Teens, who are disrespectful, aggressive and mean have become this way because their parents failed them and they are really angry about it or they see this type of behavior at home - so they repeat what they live with day after day.

That remark, to me is an insult.
I personally don't know what experiences you've had with today's youth, but let me assure you that you're stereotypical views couldn't be more wrong.
Where I live, naturally there are a few trouble causers with behavioral problems but on the whole everybody if well natured and friendly, the way you stated your question makes it look like an offensive attack at every single teenager and child, and if people like me don't stand up for us... who will?
and yes, to the children that are 'disrespectful, mean and aggressive' is usually due to either peer pressure or bad parenting, so if it is antibody's fault, it is the 'parents of today'?
Exactly.
Hope i helped!

Children learn from example. When the parents are disrespectful of others, intolerant, greedy, dishonest, aggressive, and into the assignment of blame, they can expect their children to turn out the same. Then, they want to blame it all on the media and teachers for not doing their job for them.

Mainly because parents are saying, "Spare the rod, spoil the child." AND ENFORCING IT. Too many parents try to be their son or daughter's "best friend" and the child is taking advantage of it. If the parents would grow up and actually BE the parent, and let the child take responsibility for themselves, there wouldn't be as many wackos on the loose.

It all starts at home it is hard for parents to stay at home with their children now a days so children don't have the quality time they need or the parents are just not trying to raise them they rely on tv,computers and video games to keep them occupied

Not all teens and kids are bad. And for the teens, it's the horomones, for the kids, it's the poor parenting skills in their homes. That's a very good question though.
