Look at what the manufacturer recommends. Most new cars will tell you what to use either in the manual, or sometimes printed on the gas cap or somewhere.

Most cars don't need premium gasoline - you get absolutely zero performance increase, and it has zero affect on the engine.

Older cars - like my '65 mustang require the higher octane of mid-grade or premium (I just use regular, and add octane booster to it).

If your car is designed to run on regular gas, you are just wasting money to put anything else in it. It's a common misconception though, and believe me, the gas companies don't want you to know.

UNless your car requires it, it is a total waste of money.
The name "premium" is a marketing ploy. The gasoline is not better than "regular", it simply has different properties. high octane gasoline is more resistant to pre-detonation. THis is only a concern if you have a very high performance engine or an engine with a super charger or a turbo charger. Most cars will run fine on regular gasoline and will see no benefits with high test gasoline.
Save yourself some cash and use regular.

The premium gasoline is only useful for vehicles that require it like a Corvette or my late model Mercedes. Your owner's manual will indicate which grade of gasoline is right for your vehicle. Using a higher grade will not make your car perform any better, in fact it will only waste your money.

Do make sure that you follow the manufacturer's preventive maintenance guide and get your oil changed at appropriate intervals.

Do what the owner's manual says. Nothing else is needed and may actually be worse for your car. That's what the experts say and I agree with them from years of experience. However, I do recommend using Chevron Techron concentrated fuel injection and intake manifold cleaner additive in your gas tank twice a year or so. The same additive is contained in all grades of Chevron and some Texaco gasolines.

See what the hand book says. Unless the car has an extreemly high performance engine in it, use Regular.

Your owners manual should specify what grade your engine recommends, high octane gas is recommended for high compression engines, if it is not recommended for your car the high octane fuel may burn too fast and actually have adverse affects.

If you compare regular to the better gas, there is an absolute difference. It's practically like you eating dirt, when you could be eating a sandwich.

if your car is meant for it, then you should use it.....if its meant for normal 87 octane...then you are wasting your money.

a bottle of STP injection cleaner every 5 tank ups will do more and will cost 1/20th the price.
