I have a Dell E510 With Pentium D 2.80 GHz. Comp specs: 2 Gig Mem. 256mb graphics 160 Gig HD (don't know motherboard specs because it's a dell motherboard) I am wondering though, would I see much improvement if I bought a Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz.... Same socket I'm pretty sure.

Intel's CPU Socket 775 will support both types of processors.

Dell E510 models come with a variety of sockets & processors so I would call the manufacturer if you are uncertain of the socket on your unit.

Yes .... a huge improvement in performance mostly due to the 4MB L2 cache and 1066MHz FSB.

Expensive upgrade, though ... sells for around $500.00 retail.

You may want to consider selling your unit & buying a new PC altogether (what will you do with the old CPU).
