An addictive personality can manifest in many ways. If the person is stressed, smoking or drinking can feel like they are helping the situation -- but so can any kind of mindless endeavor that distracts the person from their current condition. I should know -- I am using Yahoo! Answers that way myself to avoid dealing with the high level of stress in my own life!

Addicted is an overused word. It's not a physical addiction, they just like them, and have no reason not to play with them. It's not like smoking where it can hurt your health, what's the problem with virtual pets.

Why not? Lots of smart people also enjoy things that are not mentally challenging. Sex, for example.

because more thanlikely they did not have those toys when they were younger either could not afford them or they were not made
