What brand of pills do you take? It normally takes 1 week to be effective. After that 1 week, you do not need a back up method of protection. It does not take 1 month, as others falsely stated. That is a myth.

You will want to go through a full cycle of pills plus if I were you I would wait until I was 1 week into the next cycle of pills just to be sure. I am pills that it what I had to do.
