Why do well cut diamonds refract light unlike any other stone???

What happens to the light;inside the diamond when it's all lit up;by say direct sunlight???...Thanks for your detailed answer...Tom Science 4

They don't reflect light better than any other clear crystal that's been cut correctly. Once you reach the critical angle, 100% of the light that comes in reflects out from any crystal. Diamonds look good only because jewelry stores and commercials tend to use point source, narrow beam lights like halogen lights. It's all hype.
