I'm going to be in Texas for 9-10 days this summer. I love San Antonio and Fort Worth! I've only been in Austin for 24 hours, but had a great first impression of the city. I've never been in Houston (just the suburbs, though,) and I've heard bad things about Dallas.
I'm considering things such as outdoor recreation (including water,) nightlife, interesting attractions, shopping, good dining, and the hospitality that Texas is supposed to have.
I'm a college student on a budget; but, Texas is MUCH greater than where I live now, Kentucky, and I can't wait to visit the Lone Star State again! Thank you.

Hi Chandler, I am originally from West Virrginia, a very pretty state, but cold in the winter. Anyway I have lived in Texas for 12 years now. I love Texas. It is a very friendly state. There is plenty to do in Austin, Ft Worth, Dallas or San Antonio. As far as water...South Padre Island is wonderful. If you go to GOOGLE you can type in THINGS TO DO IN__,Tx. You will get a lot of info., including events, resteraunts, clubs, etc Hope this helps

Dallas is great! I can't imagine anything bad that you may have heard about it. It's certainly much nicer and better than Houston (which is larger and more diverse, but very dirty and ghetto).
Have you been to New Braunfels? It's between Austin and San Antonio. Make sure you go to Schlitterbahn there. It's widely regarded as the best water park in the nation, so you definitely shouldn't miss it!
If you go down south, check out South Padre Island. In the summer, it's a great place to be! Lots of tan Texan bodies everywhere.
There's so much to see and do in the Lone Star State! Have fun!!

San Antonio And Austin are the best areas to visit. They both have great nightlife's. There are tons of lakes to wake board or jet ski. Austin & San Antonio are only an hour away from eachother...or 1/2 an hour if I'm driving.
But as far as hospitality...Austin...by far.
Keep Austin weird!

Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor are in Arlington between Dallas Fort Worth
Austin has 6th st
Houston has Westheimer
San Antonio has the river walk
so for a college student I think wherever you go you can have a good time

Have to go to Americas number one water park Schlitterbaun in New Braunfels (close to San Antonio). Stay in San Marcos (it is cheaper) which is the place of the famous outlet mall and believe me it is worth it. Then another favorite is paying five dollars for a tube rental ($10.00 for your cooler) and kick back and float the river all day with your pals. Nothing more fun and relaxing. Schlitterbaun is a must though. Well worth the money. Get there as soon as they open and stay till they close.

I would suggest San Antonio. It isnt too far from Austin. It is less expensive to live in San Antonio. San Antonio has a lot of culture. Houston is very ghetto and trashy.

San Antonio is my pick -- the Riverwalk is great for night life, and there is the nearby Guadeloupe River with parks around it for REAL river walking!! Had a great time exploring there -- but watch if you crawl into any overhanging rocks or such. Almost grabbed a tarantula by mistake, once. Surprised h e l l out of me!!

Well, Im in Dallas. You could visit Body Worlds, the exposicion where people are plastinated. Or you could go to Purgatory, great club, Uropa is pretty good too.
If you are in Dallas, go to Greenville Ave, that's where all the bars are at.
