The arrests in Birmingham. An Asian, ...ahem, gentleman(!),
wanted to know why the police hadn't told, or liased, with the Moslem community, before the arrests took place!!!
For God's sake, why would they?
I'm Catholic, I don't recall the police seeking my permission to combat the I.R.A. threat when it was at it's highest. Why the hell would the police communicate with a community that has been proved to be as unhelpful as the Moslem community.
Are they 'special', or something?

Agree totally with question.

Who the hell do these people, of Asian descent, think they are?

The Irish example is a great one. Can you imagine the scenario whereby the police went and told Gerry Adams, that they were going to make a raid.

I dont think they should have been warned, even the elders. You know the news would spread fast through the whole community, next thing you know even Bush knows about it!! Then the suspects would have been aware they are being checked out!! I reckon there should not be a minimum time limit you can detain a suspect under the terrorism act, i mean come on, the police obviously have a very strong proof,or something on the suspects to detain them in the 1st place!! Its not like just another arrest, if they are going to arrest them under the terrorism act then they got to have substancial reasons to!! But the time limit just means they have to be released before the police have enough strong evidence, and once they are released thats it, they have disappeared for ever!! (Im not racist or anything, im an asian too)!

The difference is that in the days of the troubles there was a reasonable indication that a significant proportion of the catholic population supported the terrorist activities of the IRA. Therefore it would not be sensible for the police to liase with the local catholic community as they were the enemy.
What is the "reasonable indication"? The fact that a majority of catholics voted for Sinn Fein which supported the activities and was seen as closely linked to the IRA.

In the case of muslim terrorism there is no mainstream muslim political organisation in the UK that both has the support of the majority of muslems and supports terrorist muslim organisations.

Until this situation changes, and it might do in the next few years, the UK police should support the muslim people and hunt down the minority of muslims who are the terrorists and their supporters.

Judging from the paranoid and hoo-ha-ha panic in Boston, I only wish our Homeland Security Intelligence would apply the same sort of commonsense intelligence like the way the Brits handle theirs. It's amazing that none was alerted to anything BEFORE all those gimmicks were planted, and paranoa only occurs DAYS AFTER the gimmicks were in place for the 'grand show'! Reminds me of the paranoid behavior at our airports after the Brits unfold the 'highjacking' attempt at their airports!!!

Goodness, if the "cartoon-promotion" gimmicks were real terrorists' attempt to blow us up, think of those other cities, other than Boston, that could have had drastic dangers. Those marketing tactics have really alerted us to how lame our intelligence is.

Intelligence is about getting to the root, source and facts, and stopping a terrorist plan from advancing - not after items have already been planted and then sending the communities into paranoid behaviors and chaos, only to find that there's much ado about nothing. We are living in an over-emotional and paranoid society created by paranoid leadership!

The Brits have done well in Birmingham without driving that community into paranoid behavior, but inconspicuously smoke out suspects even before they could even put their items into unsuspected structures.

We all have our moral conscience to try combat terrorism by keeping our eyes and ears open whereever we walk and to report to the police about any suspicious events - not to public panic and hoo-ha-has, only to find that we've been ridiculous messengers of much ado about nothing!

I really thought the leaders in Boston have over-reacted with their lame presence of mind and losy professionalism to have sent that whole city into such chaos and panic... after those gimmicks have already planted.

Remember how approximately four million Americans were treated to the greatest Halloween trick of all time and into a frenzied tango of panic -- the Mercury Theater on the Air's October 30, 1938, radio adaptation of H.G. Wells' 1898 novel, The War of the Worlds? Haven't we learn from the lesson? Wonder if The Mercury theater had to pay for the bills created by the paranoid citizens???

Its just another excuse for self elected 'community leaders' to get their face on the TV for a bit of self-promotion. It seems we have groups of people who spend their time looking for things to be offended over instead of helping the situation and suggesting solutions.
Whatever the police do there will always be someone who wants to critisise. They're either heavy handed or too soft (usually at the same time depending on your own political view).

muslims bleat on about being integrated and not being excluded yet still insist on special status and dispensations. They're either with us or against us. No special treatment. The law is the law and when something serious like this arises then they should stop their incessant whingeing and expecting everyone to pussyfoot around them and COOPERATE. Unless of course...they dont really want to

If the Police had tried to liaise with the Muslims they would have tipped the suspects off.

Why should the Police trust a Corrupt and bitter Community.....

Quite right they should not be told what is happening and in my view they should be held and questioned as long as is necessary and if we can't find what we want then fly them some where else where the questioning is a bit tougher,as the Americans do.

I totally agree with you! How ridiculous would it be if the police sought permission from every community before arresting somebody-Ludicrous!!
