Just apply the clear nail polish. To get a good crescent with the white nail polish, you'd need to buy or make templates which would be a hassle.
One recommendation for another time: Essie's Sugar Daddy nail polish. It's a sheer pink that is a quick way to get the look of a French Manicure.

Hey!
You could try this. This is what i do for a DIY french manicure!
1st wash and dry your nails completely. Next apply the base coat and let it dry completely.
Use a guide strip and fix it below the tip of a nail. You can paint an even white tip easily without mistakes.
Paint each nail tip white. Try not to get any white polish on the body of the nail. Let the tips dry.
Once they are dry, remove all the guide strips. Dissolve leftover adhesive by rubbing it gently with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
Apply two coats of the clear polish, letting the first coat dry completely before the second.
Now you're all set!!
Have a great b'day! =)

buy the french manicure sets.... it's basically 2nail polish colours[white and a nude/natural]. you say you already have the white... but u need the pink/nude colour.
I do mine all the time and they look professional. I do it slightly diffrently than the box becuase I don't like how the white doesn't show as much
-Put down a base coat. this is just to protect yoru nails
-Then the nude/colour. Put 2 coats of this.
-Carefully put the white strip across the tip of nail. If you're hand isn't as steady, they have these stickers to put down on your nail to make the lines come out str8 &perfect
-Apply a top coat.
TIPS:
To make nails last longer, apply a top coat every 3days of so.
Some brands make the brush on the white nail polish thinner than normal. This makes it easier to apply the white with more precision.
A good brand for the french manicure set is Salley Hansen. it comes with; the white; the pink and sometimes the stickers to help application
Apply the white after the nude colour instead of first because when the nude is applied over the white, the white colour doesn't show up as much. Especially with 2coats of the pink/nude

Use tape to cover the part of the nail you don't want painted white. Then paint the white tips, let the paint dry and remove the tape. Go over the entire nail with the clear polish. Masking tape works best.

Paint your tips with the white, straight across, with a neat and steady hand. Then take a make up brush with nail polish remover on it and take out the excess from the nail bed.
Good luck!

Get a kit. it is going to contain little strips which you place on, this is the least confusing way besides the undeniable fact that it does take a together as for each layer to absolutely dry. or you're able to do it without the strips yet you go with for extremely stable palms. somewhat in case you have a Sally elegance furnish by potential of you, get the Beverly Hills French nail cropping kit. that is very easy by using fact the white section covers the comprehensive nail. that is not easy to describe besides the undeniable fact that it somewhat seems large and that is plenty extra user-friendly.

File them so they're flat across at the tip (rather than rounded), then paint a strip of white across the tips. When that dries, add 3 coats of clear over the whole nail. That should do it!

if you dont have a steady hand then just tape up the part that you dont want painted (leaving the tips not taped) paint the tips white following the tape line. when the tips are dry peel off the tape. paint clear over entire nail....make sure the white is dry before painting with clear.
