Not recently. There was talk in 04 and debate over it. If you google "vote on military draft" you can find info on it. Also here is an older article. http://www.hillnews.com/news/072904/military.aspx

Updated: I stand corrected. Heartsnminds down below shows an article that says Rangel will try to re-introduce a the draft bill like he did in 04 which was defeted. Same as before the bill didn't even make it past the congress. Rangel is just using it as a political manuver to scare people and he does it for diff reasons. Back in 04 even Rangel voted against it. I wonder if he did the same thing this time

its a political manuever. if the republicans in power knew that the american ppl would refuse to send their kids to war, and the republicans THEMSELVES might have to send their kids off, they'd change their feelings about the war. it was pretty much one guy who was pushing the draft.

BUT, with the way recruiting is going, and the lowered requirements for joining the military, it wouldnt surprise me if a draft was coming soon unless things change.

Charlie RAngel, D, NY, did it to embarass the pubs into having to admit that they really did not want a war that would send their kids away to die.
