I had to take Geometry this year and I absolutely hated it. I did so much better in Algebra 1 than Geometry. In Algebra, I have an 91 average as opposed to an 89 average in Geometry.

I too did better in (and preferred to do) Algebra versus Geometry. However, the grades that you obtained are only two points or 2% different. For you, I think it's more of an issue of like and dislike. Human nature...my opinion...you work harder on the things that you like; even though you think you are working harder on the things that you don't.

This doesn't happen to everybody, but I've sure seen plenty of examples of it. It's strange that some people will do fine in one, but struggle through the other. Personally, I grasped geometry much better than I did algebra when I took these classes.

I have a couple of guesses as to why some people do better in one than the other. Geometry uses much more visualizing of 2D and 3D shapes. Some people are just better at visualizing things like this, which is also the reason why some people are just better at parallel parking their cars. Geometry though also demands using a lot of spontaneous logic and intuition, most especially when it comes to proofs. It seems that some people who are good at arguing and debate might do better with geometry. With algebra, you can learn by patterns such as "do something to one side of the equation and you do it to the otherside, and keep doing that until you get x by itself". Some people are great at finding patterns fast and applying them. But you can't necessarily rely on patterns like that to do a proof.

Both are learnable skills though, and I think if you can find a way of putting a new concept into your own words, you can remember it because you've found a way that it makes sense to you.

Geometry is much more visual and manipulative, where algebra is more numerical and mathematical. I too didn't like the geometry as well as the algebra.

Geometry is more concrete, more visual. Algebra is more "what if", just numbers.
