Beta Fish have a variouslife spand. My sister had a Beta that loved for 2 years. Then I had one and it died after a week. And yes I did take care it right. Just keep it healthy.

I used to have tropical fish in a 29 gallon tank, and I had a clown loach who lived to be over eight years old. I would think if your Beta were living under optimal conditions, it might be possible for him to live that long as well. I would make sure that his tank or bowl is kept clean so that he has oxygenated water at all times. As far as feeding, a small amount of food once a day is optimal to prevent overfeeding and bloat. Does he have spots on him or anything like that or is he just not eating? You might want to go to a local pet store or aquarium store and enquire as to what you could maybe add to the water to correct what symptoms he may be having. Good luck!

The reason the Betta Splendidus thrives is because it can breath air from the surface of the water and can live in quite stagnant waters. If your other fish are suffering you can be sure its due to high ammonia/nitrite levels. if you have an internal cannister filter use cold water to clean it out not hot and leave some muck in it as you want the bacteria to survive - take a sample of your tank water to your local aquarium supply store and have it tested if you dont have a test kit.

I had one that lived for about 4-5 years- I don't remember exactly. When you get a betta fish, you never know how long it'll live. I had a friend who's betta only lived a few months. But those little things can sure hold one it they wanna!

The average lifespan is 3 years. Possible maximum is about 8 years. They are already around 1 year when you buy them. Bettas are hardy fish and though it is to their disadvantage, they don't die quick in bad conditions. Just keep up the good conditions and he could live for years.

Generally betta live 3-5 years, and are .5-1 year old when bought. The keys to keeping them healthy are water quality (regular water changes), temp (75-85F), and not over feeding (about as much as his eye ball 6 times a week).

betta live in captivity about 3 years. they have been kept alive as long as 10 years.

most fish have fairly long life spans. goldfish can go 20 yrs with proper care and records of longevity are about 40 yrs.

i think one of the big differences with bettas is they are kept alone. when you have a community tank and introduce a new fish it usually comes with new diseases to kill off the fish you have already.

as long as you keep him clean and happy he will be around for a while.

The life span of your betta will depend on how well you take care of it. We have males breeding that are 4 years old. I know of a breeder of show bettas in florida who reports one of his breeders as 8 years old.

Most likely you bought your betta at a pet store, who ordered the fish from a middleman who bought it from a farm in Orient. Your betta is most likely between the age of 6 months and a year.

You really have no way of knowing how old a fish is when you buy from a pet store unless the pet store buys direct from a breeder.

Most people believe that bettas live between 2 and 3 years. In fact this is most likely the lifespan because most betta owners really do not take as good of care of the fish as they could. Over feeding, dirty water, cramped living conditions always take their toll on the bettas.

If you take care of your betta he will enjoy years of happy healthy life.
