some of these answers scare me. This is the reason there ought to be a test given to all potential voters. Learn where the candidate stands on the issues that are important to you, and decide whether they will follow their beliefs or change them because of public opinion. I would like to see someone with the backbone of George W run.

Doesn't everyone just love partisan voters a la "I'm going to vote Democratic no matter who's on the ballot" ?
Answers like that scare me too. I just know that I could never vote for Hillary Clinton, and it's not because she's a woman, it's because she has her own agenda. For me to vote for a candidate, it has to be someone who is genuinely concerned with the welfare of the country. Hillary just doesn't carry that type of conviction when she answers questions and speaks of her platform.
Senator John McCain of Arizona is a great candidate. He is moderate-to-liberal on the Republican spectrum, and even though he ventures close to the line between right- and left-wing politics, he's not a switch-hitter. He has a clear program and the experience to back it up.
Governor Mitt Romney of Massachussets would be another excellent choice. He is young, experienced, and HONEST, unlike many of the politicians today. He has more proven success in executing effective leadership than just about anybody on the ballot.
Edwards is a great guy, but he just doesn't strike me as the "President" type. In my opinion, he would let congress and his VP dictate a lot of his decisions, kind of like George W. Bush did in his first term.
Obama has got a level head about him, but I don't think he can win the good graces of voters enough to be a player in the elections. I think he may just win out in the primaries, but I think any Republican would win against him when it comes down to it, not because he's a Democrat, but because I think this country still fears Islam to an extent. Even though he has been nothing but neutral to all religion in his political views and actions, the country will have a hard time identifying with a "Muslim President" at this point in time. I'd say that Obama has a better chance coming back in 2016 once the Iraq conflict has leveled off and the US has adopted a more Middle East-friendly culture.
Out of all of the candidates, I would prefer to see Romney in the Oval Office. Even if he is more conservative than the average person, he has proven experience and success leading a Democratic state.

I don't know yet. I thought I would vote for Hillary, but so far she's not doing very well at answering questions. They've all got to do a lot of convincing me at this point in the game.
