Can't afford the amounting taxes here & the possiblity of the town becoming a "city". Population is around 31,000. Looking for something rural for my family in the future. People I know are "transplanting" down south. Its not all that easy you know. Can anyone help me with ideas about making the best out of living in this state? I am thinking about Litchfield (Watertown) area due to work. Can Not afford to live in Fairfield County. Thank you everyone.

How far away are you looking? I'm from Fayetteville, WV. It's small (pop. 2700) but has everything going on around it. We were rated as one of the Top 10 Coolest Towns by Southern Living Magazine. It's located along the New River Gorge National River and offers some of the best whitewater, rock climbing, and mountain biking in the country. We have one of the largest tracts of public land in the country which makes it easy to get away for a camping trip or maybe a cabin getaway at one of the state parks. It also rates one of the lowest crime rates in the country and taxes are as low as anywhere in the country. You would also be located within a 5 to 7 hour drive of several metro. areas if you just had to have a taste of big city life. I recommend looking up Class VI River Runners having them set up a little discovery trip around the area. You could also contact Roaring River WV if you might like to check out some property. This is a new development along the gorge that will offer some 485 homesites just a few miles outside of town. It's a gated community that will have a lodge and aquatics center. Equestrian center and mountain bike trails that will inter- connect with the National Park trails. Anyway, wherever you decide I hope you and your family enjoy.

Check out Torrington, New Preston, New Milford or even Milford.

New haven is affordable by Ct standards, but personally I would not want to live there.
