As you can see by the other answers, there is a magazine for just about any kind of boat. Generally, boats fall into three categories: wood, fiberglass (sometimes called plastic) and steel.
I'm fond of old wooden boats and there is a magazine (Wooden Boat) that gets way into repairing, building and maintaining them.
p.s. If you should become a wooden boat owner be prepared for a lot of work

Hi!

When I first started sailing I had a wooden folkboat and was always mending / changing something and learning as I went. In those days I only ever read "practical boat owner". It was my favourite then and that was because it was full of useful tips for a yachtsman at my level of experience then.

When I wanted to sell that boat and buy a bigger one, I only ever read "boats and planes for sale". At that time it was my favourite for obvious reasons.

When I had my ocean going long keeled lovely and was heading off out there, my favourite was "yachting monthly" and that was because of the multitude of articles that were relevant to what I was doing - ocean cruising.

When I began my online nautical business, my favourite yachting magazine was the one that charged the least for placing adverts to my website.

In my marina (as in any other) there is a range of boat owners and guess what? Those with small scruffy yachts (like my first one was) all seem to read PBO. The offshore types seem to read YM and the racing fraternity favour "Yachting World".

Hope this helps out.

Boating Magazine is my favorite. There's a good mix of new boat reviews, tech info, and tips on maintenance.

Visited Chicago before best: tons of things to see and do, great museums, great food, great jazz clubs, cubs, bears, white sox, blackhawks, nice people worst: expensive, and many homeless people who come up to you every 5 minutes and ask for money (I am from NY city, and the homeless in Chicago are much more aggressive)
