I have heard this from alot of old people. They see someone smoking pot & they call it taking dope. I never understood that one.

OK guess no one understands my question. I just thought it was funny because how in the hell do you take dope? You can smoke it,snort it, shoot it. Not Take It!!

LOL!! I am 42 and I heard that a lot growing up.....if there was something on the news about some teenagers that got into a car accident, or stole something....Right away the older people would say "They must be taking dope"

Are you asking why some people call drugs "dope"? Its origin is probably because they think only a dope would use drugs.
Take dope as in take it into your system. Probably started with drugs that were pills because those could easily be "taking dope". Once the phrase was established, it probably spread to all forms whether it was taking them orally or just partaking of them and getting them into their system as in "taking a hit". Don't know the answer for sure, of course, but I imagine it's along those lines.

The old people probably use proper grammar and spelling. They're (contraction for they are) out there (a place) taking dope. How can There be there when talking about people.

Because it's true, maybe. Dope has been a slang word for pot & other drugs since the 60's.

Old people don't always understand young people. One day you will be old and what will you do? My advice is try to help the old people understand more - talk to them.
