It is free to use the wifi, you just need a wireless router to hook it up too (which of course should be hooked up to your internet modem!!)

it lets you surf the internet and play games online, wirelessly

Wi-Fi is wireless networking. The PS3, Nintendo DS and PSP have this feature.

In order to get it working, your PS3 needs to connect to your home wireless network (usually a router connected to your DSL or Cable modem).

Your PS3 manual should guide you step by step on how to do this.

PS3's online "PlayStation Network" is currently free. You just need an internet connection (that's dependent on if you have Verizon DSL, Time Warner, etc.). So the only thing it should cost is the cost of monthly internet.

The more expensive 60gb version lets you connect to the internet through a wireless gateway. Where the cheaper 20gb one you have to have a cat5 wire connected to your PS3
